Community Service
Communicating God’s love through acts of service in the community.
Bringing God’s Shalom to the community
Community Services is our way of connecting with and loving the community around our church, to show God’s love and faithfulness to those who are in need.
Areas of service
- Homework help and coaching provided for children (Primary One to Secondary Four) from under-privileged families
- Befriending neighbours in need at West Coast, Clementi and Lengkok Bahru by lending a listening ear, encouraging them and offering practical help
- Telling stories and reading to children to encourage literacy and a love for stories
Contact us if you’d like to volunteer or email us if you have any questions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifications do I need to have to volunteer for Homework Help?
You’ll need to be familiar with Singapore’s Ministry of Education Primary or Secondary school curriculum and most importantly, a heart for the children.
Is Homework Help the same as giving tuition?
A tuition teacher teaches and reinforces the syllabus required by the Ministry of Education for academic improvement and/or achievement at a fee.
A Homework Help volunteer provides guidance based on the work brought by the student, akin to a parent helping a child at home. It ranges from helping a child prepare for a spelling test, revise for Hanyu Pinyin, memorise multiplication tables to providing extra exercises for the students to improve a weaker area or prepare for an examination.
Do I need to be a member, regular worshipper or believer at the church to volunteer?
You do not need to be a member, regular worshipper or believer. Anyone who is willing to put others’ benefit before their own, is fit to serve as a volunteer in the community. We welcome you to find out more about our faith or join a care group to find your Carmel family.
